Day Two DevOps

Ned Bellavance and I on Day Two DevOps host brilliant and effusive engineers who share their lessons learned from large, impactful projects. Come soak up all the hard lessons they learned through building big stuff (and sometimes destroying big stuff), all for the low low cost of totally free.

Summary

We are firmly entrenched in a hybrid cloud world, from on-prem data centers to multiple cloud platforms to branch and remote offices, not to mention wandering end users connecting via VPN. While the network is the common substrate among all these locations, every cloud provider has its own network implementation. Managing, monitoring and securing all of that connectivity is a huge challenge.

Sponsor Alkira is here to talk about its approach to multi-cloud networking. Its on-demand, cloud-delivered platform aims to simplify management of all those disparate networks, plus provide features such as high availability, security, deep visibility, and integration with Terraform. Our guests from Alkira are William Collins and Misbah Rehman.

Episode Guests: William Collins and Misbah Rehman

William Collins, Director of Tech Evangelism, Alkira

William Collins is a strategic thinker and catalyst for innovation. He focuses on increasing speed to market while reducing time to value. His focus centers around helping enterprises adopt the cloud with practical solutions that are grounded in real-world outcomes.  Over his career, he has helped enterprises build large-scale networks, driven modernization through cloud adoption, and excels at optimizing complex environments through good design practices and automation.

Misbah Rehman, Sr. Director of Product Management and Compliance, Alkira

Misbah Rehman is currently Sr. Director of Product Management and Compliance at Alkira.  He joined Alkira during stealth mode and played a pivotal role in the successful product launch in April 2020, driving product development, initial market penetration and brand recognition.  He has led the product management team, defining deliverables, spearheading new initiatives, and crafting growth plans that aligned with company objectives.  His previous positions as lead architect and systems engineer have given him a depth of experience with many layer2/layer 3 technologies and virtualization technologies and platforms.

Full Episode Sponsor: Alkira

Alkira has reinvented networking for the cloud era by delivering Cloud Area Networking, the first global unified network infrastructure with on-demand hybrid and multi-cloud connectivity, integrated network and security services, end-to-end visibility, controls and governance, all delivered as-a-service.  Alkira’s vision is nothing short of the complete reinvention of networking which is a vision of a multi-cloud capable network that behaves like the cloud and is consumed as-a-service like the cloud.  Alkira’s network is where services, like firewalls, live and scale in the cloud, plus end-to-end visibility and governance.  In other words, Alkira is making networks delivered as a service.
